What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive treatment that encourages the brain to develop healthier patterns of activity. As the brain develops habituated patterns over time, neurofeedback training, through auditory feedback, interrupts unnecessary stress responses to help the brain get into a more regulated state. The goal of treatment is not only to improve how you think and feel, but also to improve your brain's function on a biological level. Neurofeedback helps to change unconscious and automatic brain habits that may contribute to keeping us feeling "stuck." Our office uses the NeurOptimal® system for neurofeedback.

What can Neurofeedback help with?

The benefits of neurofeedback include:

  • Increased concentration

  • Improved information retention

  • Reduced "brain fog"

  • Improved decision making and confidence

  • Feeling happier and calmer

  • Overall improved sense of wellbeing

  • Improved stress management

  • Improved sleep

  • Improved gastrointestinal issues

  • Reduced symptoms of tinnitus

  • Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression

What is a Neurofeedback session like?

In a quiet, relaxing space, two small electrodes are placed on the side of the head. Two additional electrodes are placed on the top of each ear and one additional electrode is placed on an ear lobe.

Headphones are placed in the ears.

Music plays through the headphones for the 33-minute session. Pauses in the music may be noticed and are the indication that the training is in progress. At the end of the session, a staff member will remove the electrodes. Allow 45 minutes from start to finish per session.

What is the cost of Neurofeedback?

The initial consultation is $150 with Dr. Daniel

Per session cost is $130

10 session package is $1,170 (10% off)

20 session package is $2,210 (15% off)

Is Neurofeedback safe?

Neurofeedback is non-invasive training, or exercise, for the brain. It is generally considered safe with little to no side effects. When side effects occur, they have been reported to be minor and temporary. Reported side effects have been temporary sleepiness, lack of focus or mild headache. In our practice with NeurOptimal®, the only side effect reported has been a temporary lack of focus.

How many sessions are needed?

While changes may be noticed in 3-5 sessions, usually 10-30 sessions are recommended. One to three sessions per week are most efficient to achieve results. Neurofeedback encourages neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to heal, learn, change, and adapt) and therefore may result in brain changes sustain over a long period of time.

Is Neurofeedback covered by insurance?

While there are CPT insurance codes for neurofeedback, insurance companies have not consistently covered it. With more evidence that Neurofeedback is a successful standalone or complimentary therapy, we hope neurofeedback will be included with insurance plans in the near future.
